Bug Reports / Queue numbers wrong maybe?

Hi,

In the screenshot, I am building a total of 5 colony ships, the planet build window shows one currently being built and 4 in queue.

However when I zoom out and mouse over this planet, it lists that only 3 are in queue.

Maybe wrong?

Bug Reports / Zooming in to get a better view of ship makes ship go bye bye

Hello,
I was zooming in to try to get a decent view of my colony ship, as seen in the first screenshot, seems okay but wanted to get in a bit closer for a better view, and then 3/4 of the ship just disappears (see 2nd screenshot).

Video card: Nvidia 275GTX (latest drivers)

Hi,

I'm pretty sure that when I started my game I could click on my worlds icon in the empire left pane window of the main screen and a double click would quickly zoom me into my planet chosen.

However, after a crash and then loading the auto save, only the names of the planets or the suns are clickable, clicking on the planet or sun icons in the left pane of the main window does nothing.

I was musing around the diplomacy panel and decided to click on one of the treaties I had made, one that said 'treaty with 3 clauses' when I did the game crashed.

Hi,

I was just fiddling around with the graphics of the buttons across the top of the screen as I work on a project to give the UI an overhault and give it more of a 'gold' theme, and noticed when I click on the buttons across the top of the screen (empire, research, blueprints, planets etc), it's only the blueprints button that doesn't close the window that it opens.

That is to say that if I click on the Empire button once, it opens the window, if I click on it again it closes the window, but when I click on the blueprints button the second time it doesn't close the blueprints window.

Is this by design or a bug?

Hi,

Just started this game in 1.4 of SR and my home planet is a planet within another planet,  I think only a screenshot will show what I mean by this so here ya go.
It's rather like my planet is a pimple on the face of another planet waiting to be popped.

Star Ruler Discussion / Fleet Questions.

Hello,

I seem to be struggling with Fleets and have a couple questions that perhaps if somebody could asnwer I might not be struggling with fleets anymore  ;D

1. I highlight some of my ships that I want to place together into a fleet and press the 'F' key to make a fleet, and one of the ships is chosen as the leader.  How do I then select that fleet again?

2.  How do I tell what fleet a group of ships that is IN a fleet, belongs to?  For example, how do I know if  a ship that is in a fleet is in fleet 1 or fleet 2 etc?

3. Is there a way of displaying the fleet number above the ships that are in it?

Seems that without being able to identify which ships are which fleet, trying to tell a newly built ship to go join fleet # is a crapshoot if you can't visually see which ships are in which fleet.  I figure that the information is in the game somewhere and I'm just not looking at the right place or turning on the information so that it's displayed next to the ship so that I can quick glance to see which fleet is which.

4. How do I select an individual fleet, as in select fleet 3 or select fleet 8, I've tried pressing the 1, 2, 3, 5 etc keys but it doesn't seem to do anything at all.

Bug Reports / Game Just Crashed mdmp file too large to attach

Hi,
Just started a new game, didn't do anything yet, no research, no ship design, no nothing.  Just staring at my home planet and boom, game crashes.  Here is the log, but the mdmp file is too large.  Even zipped it's too large.

You may want to raise the file size of attachements to accomodate the average sized mini dump file if you need them to help diagnose problems with the game I think.  The minidump files on my computer are about 501kb, and 200kb+ when zipped at maximum compression in either .7z or .zip format.  Forum tells me max file size is 128kb, so... Sorry, couldn't attach minidump file this time.

Bug Reports / Planet disappears at closest zoom level

Hi,
The game is patched..

At closest level zoom on my home planet it disappears.  What is left is the part of the ring that surrounds it when it is selected.  The strange thing is that it goes from what doesn't appear to be all that closely zoomed in to making it disappear if I go another notch on the mouse wheel.

I thought I read something about this prior to the patch and word about what was done to alleviate the problem/bug but can't remember specifically what it was, if it was at all.  Could just be my imagination, although the planet disappearing on close zoom in not my imaginiation.

Modding / Is there a way to change the size of some icons?

Hi,
I tried to do a simple image replacement mod but it doesn't seem to work so the info must be stored outside of the image.

What I tried to do was to make the event notification icon larger (about 5 times larger) so I did a simple rescaling of the event_sheet.png image and started a new game.  However in the game the new event notification icon is still just as small as it always was.

I just figured with the modability of the game, that it was likely that if I enlarged the icon sheet, then it would place the enlarged icon at the location where the top left corner of the icon normally sits.  But apparently that is not the case and I guess, thinking about it, now since all the icons are on a sheet, that the game must somehow read the coordinates in of where the icons are, on that sheet to be able to display the right icon. 

Is there an easy way of modding it so that I can enlarge the event notification icon?

Hi,

If anybody is interested and has the skills to write a user created manual and or walk through to get beginners off to a good start in the game, I'd be more than happy to help in any way that I can, be that adding images, converting to PDF, proofreading and or editing.

I know the developers said in a thread around here that they didn't have time to do the manual, it was either do the manual or get more features into the game, so I believe that kind of leaves it up to us, the players to come up with a guide, manual or walkthrough for the beginning players that this game will no doubt seem overwhelming to many.  I do know a player or two that has bought this title but don't even have a clue where to start, even after running through the tutorial so I'm sure that they and other beginners that might be interested in picking up this title might really appreciate a manual that they can download and read, maybe even before buying the title to see if it's something they would enjoy.

I'm not really a writer so I can't help there, but I'll do what I can as I said above in adding any images, graphics, converting to PDF, proofreading and or editing to the best of my abilities.

If interested please post, maybe we can get a group of people working on the project to break it up into segments so as not to overwhelm any one person.

Star Ruler Discussion / To what can I change these in the config file?

Hi,

The camera rotation and pan are too sensitive for me, I know in another thread that it was said that the sliders don't work in the options panel and that I need to change it in a config file so I found this information:

bCentralZoomOut = false
fHorizontalSensitivity = -0.100000
fMoveSpeed = 1
fVerticalSensitivity = -0.100000
fZoomSpeed = 0.8

To what can I change the fHorizontalSensitivity and the verticalsensitivity?  Would I go down to like 0.000500 to make it half the sensitivity that it is now? or is 0.100000 the least sensitive that it can be set to?

The reason that I ask this, is because 'on the slider' the lowest setting corresponds to -0.1 and while the slider was said not to work, it would still indicate to me that is the lowest setting possible which is still way too squirrelly to me.  But maybe that is the highest.  Is there steps that it has to go in, like -0.5 or -0.2 etc?

Star Ruler Discussion / Is there a way to adjust the gamma?

Hi,

I know that you said that changing the colors for the empires will come in a future patch/update.  Being that as it is, is there some file that I can open up and change the screen gamma to make it brighter/lighter?

The brown color of the players empire as I mentioned in the suggestion thread is just to blendy with the background and makes it neigh impossible for me to see the smaller icons of the ships like the fighters when zoomed in to where their big icon above them disappears.  I figure if I can adjust the gamma of the game then I'll be able to see the ships a bit better and be able to play in the meantime while you all are working on getting colors incorporated into the game for the player to choose for his empire.

Hi,

Couple Questions:

1. How do I change the color of my empire?  It seems to want to default to brown which is too hard for me to see against the black background much of the time.

2. How do I see what treaties I have with other races?  I know I just created one with another race but I can't seem to find anyplace in the diplomacy screen to show me what treaties I have in place with each race.  Must be in another screen somewhere maybe?

3. I went through the tutorial but I'm still a bit unclear on the diplomacy window.  When I propose a treaty and put something in the top window, is that what I'm offering or that I'm demanding?  When another race offers me a treaty, the item that is in the top window is what they are demanding or offering?

Bug Reports / Tried to unjoin or resign ship from fleet, game crashed.

What was witnessed:
Tried to unjoin ships (resign?) from fleet, right clicked on one of them and chose to resign, got the busy cursor in Windows 7 (spinning circle), until game stopped responding and exited to Windows

What was expected:
Expected ship to resign from fleet.

Reproduction Steps:
  • Choose ship to resign right click and choose to resign
  • "might" have chosen the same ship to resign again, although I was aiming for another ship in the fleet, not sure if I hit it or the one already resigned.

Star Ruler Discussion / Wrong command listed in tutorial

Normally I don't point out typos, and actually this isn't so much a typo as just the wrong thing.

On the tutorial it tells the player to remove an item from the pinned list, to "shift click", but as you devs pointed out in the livestream chat, it's actually "ctrl click".  Just something you might want to fix when you're going through the game fixing the smaller of the buggies.

If you hadn't told me how to do it during the livestream I would have tried it a couple dozen times and finally just given up trying to remove objects from the pinned list.  But hey that's probably just my lack of patience when being told how to do something but it doesn't work.  ;)

Suggestions / Couple suggestions

I can't remember the names that I give to the ships that I try to create and export, it would be nice if I didn't have to leave the game to see what I named them in earlier games, perhaps a browse button that listed the ships that have been exported would be nice for when I want to load a ship into my game.

I think it would also be a good idea if we had a place to put in notes on the ship that come up as a tooltip when we press the browse button (see above) and mouse over a ships name so that we can have an idea what might make it special instead of maybe just being Fighter MK V, the tooltip would bring up the notes that we added to the ship.

I also think there should be some failsafe that prevents me from clearing a design if I have not exported it or saved it, perhaps just an *optional* popup box asking me to confirm that I want to clear the design without saving or exporting it.  Note I said *optional* because I know not everybody likes confirmation pop up windows.

The camera sensitivity needs a couple more notches to slow down the camera.  I believe I've turned it both as slow as they will go and it's still way too fidgity and fast when I try to pan around.

In my opinion, the universe should Not pan out of view if I'm not moving the camera, when I stop moving the camera, so should the universe.  It seems to do this all rather slowly but none the less it's happening and is a tad bothersome.

Perhaps this is already in the game, and I just haven't figured it out... I'd really like to see what ships I have selected using the drag a box around the ships method of selection, something beyond the 65 items selected would be good in my opinion.  I feel as if I'm running blind at times with my selections.

I've got a lot of other suggestions but I'm tired from not sleeping in about 7 days from cronic insomnia so I'll have to come back later.

I may be totally off base on this and if so I apologize, but is the reason that the ship icons are so big because when I zoom in to watch the battle, the ships have no direction?  What I mean is that I see them floating sideways and seemingly diagonally instead of heading in the direction that their thrusters would actually be moving them.  It looked really bad the first time that I saw a ship sliding sideways.

Also saw three of my fighters get locked up on themselves, they were tangled up together and couldn't seem to break free, they sort of made a triangle out of the three ships the way that they were tangled up.  It's that sort of view and the one notied above about sliding sideways that makes watching any sort of battles closeup a, well... A real let down for all that it's hyped about particles and effects and what not else.

Perhaps the AI's diplomatic requests need to be toned down a bit.  I was hit with a diplomatic request from the same AI for what seemed like every 30 seconds to 1 minute, it became such an annoyance that I didn't want to click the tiny purple button to see what the hell they wanted after about 50 minutes of playing.  Not to mention it was always the same thing.  Basically they demanded some item in (fictional numbers) let's say 317 units per second to stop war, and at first I payed it (at least I assume I payed it as the diplomacy window to me is a bit confusing), and then what seems like a minute later or so up pops another diplo req, I check it out and refuse it.  60 seconds later another request this time it's a lower number like 300, then repeat and this time it's a number of 285, kept checking out the requests until the amount they were demanding was down to like 40 or so.  Believe me that took a lot of patience and thought it very odd that they've got like 100 ships standing outside my worlds atmosphere that could easily anhialate me, but kept dropping their demands everytime that I refused their request.  Seems to me they should have simply come in and wiped me out.
More later when I am more awake and can be more observant.

Star Ruler Discussion / Is SR going to be a full game at release?

Hi,

First off I've bought the game through GG as I do enjoy a good 4x game from time to time, and bought it forum unseen.

Now, I see a lot of messages about things that will or may be released after the game is released (few hours from now I suppose, maybe 9 or so) and I also see a lot of messages about things that won't be in the game or couldn't be in the game due to financial concerns and or running out of money etc.

This has me wondering... Will Star Ruler be a 'full' game at release?  Or will it be a game that one should simply hold of even playing for a couple weeks or months until some patches can be applied to patch in the full game?

One of the reasons that I ask about this, is because I'm the type of player that doesn't dwell on any one single game for all that long, I play it to my hearts content and then move on and am not likely to come back to it, so if it's going to significantly change in patches maybe it would be best for me to just hold off on playing it until it's "complete" if it's not already at release tomorrow.

Secondly, is it possible to mod the game into becoming more of a financial trading (with combat) type of game (or maybe that's already in there) rather than more of what it currently is?
