[Blue Sky idea] Ship stat tracking
« on: August 29, 2010, 08:19:59 PM »
Given the scope you envision for this game, this suggestion may not be feasible (at least without some very clever allocation/deallocation code).  With that caveat...

I think it would be worthwhile to think about a method to track various stats on a per-ship basis.  Things like number of kills, damage taken, damage repaired, cargo hauled, etc.  Eventually maybe this could form the basis for some sort of XP/Veterancy system where ships improve beyond the "baseline" stats.

Anyway, just something I found myself wishing for as my Huge Star scale battle cruiser ripped through an enemy's solar system...

Interesting point, but wouldnt only the big ship profit from the XP?

Stats for the ships with about 10-20 values should be easy to handle as long as its possible for the engine to determine what damage ship A did to ship B with those little multiracked lasers which player C put on.

Even then, all this will only make some sense when the devs make it possible to update/retrofit old ships with state-of-the-art tech.
