System Blockade Report
« on: August 01, 2011, 01:10:12 PM »
A small report from 30 minutes game session.
Blockade is awsome. I suggested something like this in early spring which uses
special sub system but this is just plain better. Simple.

And yeah, pirates can blockade your system.!!  ;D ;D
Before, I could easilly chase off pirates with defending system's own production
capacity but with blockade almost impossible. So I had to bring fleet from
original system.

Ah, I'm such a one happy gamer having met BMS.

GAH! The pirates are annoying as all hell. It seems that as soon as the first colony ship touches down on a new system, pirates everywhere, system blockaded, and the colony can't even build up to the first metal mine.

This is only annoying to me because I have to send escorts to empty systems now, but if I don't it doesn't matter much cause there is nothing for the pirates to take since the colony has NOTHING.

Do they appear that early? I play default pirate setting and they don't appear
as you say. Well, it should be random thing.
On the other side, it would be fun if there were other reason to send escort other than repel pirates.

I think it is a great idea to send escorts with colony ships to an "uncharted" new system, who knows what dangers await you there?  If I was on a colony ship sent light years away with no escort I would not be a happy camper, having an escort is simply smart protection of your investment in the colony ship and fledgling colony since a new colony in an unprotected system is easy pickings for even one ship.  And at the very least it makes you think twice about over extending yourself early, if you cant afford the escort for the ship/new colony then you cant apparently afford to defend your own system from the pirates/remnants/AI/other players either.  This is an effective way to slow down expansion by making you build defenses to counter a potential blockade and when you do get blockaded I hope the player had the forward thinking to not make all the planets in the new system Research ones, that would REALLY be a tough one to defend with no access to the galactic bank, I always try to have one planet now in each system that can build off its own reserves, whether it is a planet that is nothing more than a big warehouse for a drydock or one that can build off its own production.  I think this is great :D

I send my colony ships with nothing and hope that they don't get attacked in the first 5 minutes or so. I have yet to have any major pirate invasions in newly colonized systems. If pirates come I usually have each planet have at least one cannon, but they generally already have defenses made for themselves. I also produce a small fighter army for defense if I have enough metal and supplies on the worlds.
