Space Ports
« on: August 21, 2010, 11:00:08 AM »
Can anyone explain to me how Space Ports work in this game? I don't know what "Ship Storage" or "Galactic Bank Trade per second" mean... It says it allows access to empire-wide resources but how is that done?

It trades resource up to, and down from, the Galactic Bank, the galaxy-wide storage you can see in your empire screen.
Ship Storage is space on the planet that you can dock ships to.

Every planet with a space port has access to and contributes to a global pool or resources. This way planets with a lot of resources can help planets with very few resources. Researching economics increases the rate at which these resources are transferred, as well as making the spaceport more expensive.

Ahh that makes sense, I hadn't noticed the galactic storage on the empire screen.

I rebuilt my space port and now the resources are pouring in, thank you.

How does one 'dock ships to the planet'?

Select a ship, then right click on a planet with ship storage space. A dock option should be listed.

Does this serve any purpose other than to have the ship not float around in space?

It keeps them protected, they'll take fuel/ammo when they undock to attack, and the planet gets to decide the targets for all ships at once.

Excellent, thank you. The space port has been a huge help now that I know economics increases its trading flow.

How do space ports relate to Haulers then?

I think because space ports only bring in resources at a tiny rate unless you fill up lots of slots with them, you'll need haulers because they can carry a boatload (ahem) of resources with them instantly.

Anyone figure out what the optimal number of space ports for resource worlds might be?  Are the numbers spot on or are there multipliers or such involved?
That is, given the following rates:
Space Port 1: 280/s
Metal Mining Complex 1: 3.97/s
Can a single space port really export the output of 80 Metal Mining Complexes every second? (or 40 with the next patch)
If so, at higher levels, would the single space port still have the capacity to meet the exporting needs of large resource planets?
Lastly, what happens when the ore runs out?  Does all resource production cease or does it still trickle?
