Since something we're not allowed to talk about is coming up, I decided to take a break from our next project and spend a week or so doing some minor things in good old SR. (Incidentally, if you have any minor features you want to see, now would be the time to suggest them, but I can't promise anything)

Today I made a basic ingame achievements system. I'm running low on ideas, so if anyone in the forums here has any good achievement ideas, this is the thread to post them :)

Note that various ideas may be unimplementable for performance reasons - try to stray away especially from things that happen in real time (for example, something like "deal 10000 damage in one hit" would need to hook into the damage system, which is generally too slow).

These are the achievements that I've currently got implemented. Names and descriptions are all pending and may change.

Ringworld - Construct a ringworld.

Red Team, GO! - Succesfully board an enemy ship.

Upstart Emperor - Colonize 1000 planets.

Galactic Conquest - Colonize 10,000 planets.

The Sea of Stars - Colonize 100,000 planets.

The Mothership - Create a ship of at least scale 1000.

That's no Star - Create a ship of at least scale 10,000.

Planet on the Windshield - Create a ship of at least scale 100,000.

The Big Guns - Damage a star enough to detonate it.

Scorched Galaxy - Detonate the Quasar. Godspeed.

Carriers All the Way Down - Dock a carrier into a carrier of the same blueprint.

Milky Way Grand Tour - Move a planet out of its original system.

I Read the Manual! - Complete the tutorial.

Small Steps - Win a game against at least one trivial AI.

Giant Leaps - Win a game against at least one hardest AI.

Rocket-Powered Hop Skips - Win a game against at least one hardest cheating AI.

PS. Yes, mods will be able to implement their own mod-specific achievements.

Minor things:

1.  bug fix on research treaties.  If you accept a research trade that you cant actually afford you permanantly lose the research even though you never had it to begin with. IE: its a game long penalty

2.  right click -> self destruct.   need this on all ships incase scuttling will take too long.

3. ability to gift ships to another empire

4. a way to PURGE all automation orders from a sected group of ships. Currently you have to purge them one at a time but can assign them in bulk.

5. right click on star -> select all planets.  useful from galaxy view for some things

Hell yes! That's what I wanted to hear. :D

As for additional ones, how about...

Power Parasite - Destroy a ship by draining its power reserves.

All your Base - Succesfully board 100 ships.

We won't need Eyes to see -  Travel from one star to another using Jump Drive.

Spring Clean - Eradicate all Remnant forces from the Galaxy.

Invincible Armada - Have a fleet with a combined scale of 1,000,000 at the same time (i.e. 1000 x scale 1000 ships).

Omniscient - Have visibility of all systems in a galaxy at the same time. (Visibility provided by planets is sufficient for this.)

Omnipresent - Have at least one ship in every system of the galaxy at the same time.

4. a way to PURGE all automation orders from a sected group of ships. Currently you have to purge them one at a time but can assign them in bulk.

Ctrl-B should do the trick and remove all automation orders from all selected ships.

GA has several new engine designs. Do you use that mod ?

yes, but the current version uses a bit too much memory for my system.

What do you mean by afford? Who loses the research? I'll have a look at this a bit later.

Scuttle is instant.

We don't really have an interface appropriate for doing this, so it wouldn't be minor.

As XTRMNTR2K said, hold control while clearing orders to clear the automation as well.

Achievements can't be achieved in multiplayer for technical reasons, and AIs don't accept permanent treaties, so this would be impossible to achieve.

We don't really do straight upgrades / tiers. If we add an engine that is 'better', it needs to also have a big downside/drawback to its use.

Not if you have to travel to a planet you own in order to do it. That makes sense if you want to reclaim the resources.. but sometimes you just want the ship -gone- and having it self destruct in place is more time economical. Also think about space stations that are created outside the orbit of a planet. They cant move thus cant be scuttled.  Self destruct would be the only reasonable alternative.

I've got three small ideas.
Miner - deplete one asteroid field system.
Nerd - Advance in 5 different technologies at least 5 levels higher than your opponent for each tech.
Size matters not - one - shot (at least 3 times bigger than yours) enemy ship (with full HP). Some scale restriciton can be added too.

I just learn about achievements, and here is my proposal:

It's Over 9000!!1! - for a spaceship with a scale over 9000.
There is no way that can be right - Got beaten up by a spaceship with a scale over 9000.
AYBABTU or All your base - Colonize a planet you just cleaned.

I'd give a try on suggesting too!

Smoking Barrels - win the game using only ballistic weapons

White Hot Streak - win the game using only missile or torpedo weapons

Neat Shave - win the game using only energy weapons

Ravenous Miner - Mine a planet with a ship till the metal on the planet depletes

Stack em and smack em up - Kill ten enemy ships simultaneously without blowing up a star

No Escape - Snipe an enemy ship at minimum ten AU away

Explosive Reagent - Deal cumulative 1,000,000 damage to enemy's planets using planet bomb weapons

No protection required - win the game without researching and using any shield tech and shield-armour tech

Bye bye HAL - Cause an enemy ship to lose control using a mind sapper

Strategist - Destroy 10,000 enemy ships in a single game

I can take it, I CAN TAKE IT! - Take cumulative 1,000,000 planet bombing damage without losing in a single game

Salvage Hermit - Salvage 100,000 metals from wreckages

I fear no icebergs! - win the game without building larger than 20-scale ships

Research Freak - gain 1,000,000 research rate in a game.

Easy As Pie - Unlock all techs

Bookworm - Get all tech to level 20

Lets make our own little moon! - Create a starbase with more HP then the planet it was created on

Wild west, space is best! - Use only the standard railgun and artillery guns for weapons.
Overkill! - Shoot more than twice the amount of ammo than actually hit enemy targets, because they deal too much damage!
Last Minute Ring! - Build a ringworld in under less then 120 minutes. (preferably under default settings)

I entreat your beautiful team to make a matchmaking service complete with ranking and leaderboard service, using dedicated servers to facilitate 1v1, 2v2 and FFA matches?

Here's few from our favorites.

Space the Final Frontier.
  - Send out colony ship blindly 100 times while 5 or more hostiles are present (Remnants too).

Please state the nature of...
  - Repair more than 1-triion HP in one game.

It's only a hobby.
  - Play SR for 1000 hours or more (total).

That's no moon!
  - Build space station of size 10000 or larger, and equip it with DSM.

I sense disturbance....
  - Use a space station to destroy the plant it's orbiting.

One in a million.
  - Kill a space station of significant size with one shot.

The wheel turns, does it not?
  - Defeat an opponent after loosing the home-world.

Sigma 957
  - Occupy Remnant Imperial Seats and Gate system.

I think you are about to go where everyone has gone before.
  - Loose a game.

I added that to my snippets post. You can install the feature in your own copy of the game if you are comfortable editing text files and willing to backup your stuff before making changes
