Official Website for Ship Designs, Mods, and Maps
« on: January 27, 2011, 06:33:16 PM »
We've just release a new part of the website, a place where you can upload, download, rate, and comment on ship designs!

http://starruler.blind-mind.com/designs

We also have support for Mods and Maps, although we're still working on those parts.

Looks great, thank you. I had been trying to to find a location where I can find other people's ship designs.

I've uploaded an improved version of the site which fixes a few bugs and adds a few new features: You can hide groups of sub systems (e.g. all armor), delete and replace designs, and a few other minor features.

What are you doing?! Your applying your game patch/update mentality to a website. The internet was not designed for such awesome coding power to be applied in such a short time-span as you guys are used to. The internet is not ready for you!

The site is overwhelmingly the work of Howard Lince, I just did some minor tweaks in places.

How do I delete designs? I can't find the button.

Maybe that feature didn't make it in this revision. I'll ask when I see him next.

Er... Has the site been rolled back to an earlier version? I cannot see how or where to delete and replace designs, something I would 'dearly' love to be able to do. Even just replacing the downloadable files would be a big step. I've uploaded a few designs, two of which required 'MK2' versions to fix bugs. The old buggy versions are still there as separate uploads, just cluttering up the place and waiting to confuse people.

You need to place it in "Documents\My Games\Star Ruler\Profiles\Script Data\Layouts". If you haven't exported a ship design yet, you may need to create either the Script Data or Layouts folder (or export a design to have the game make them for you). If the design is for a mod, it would be Mods/*mod*/Profiles/Script Data/Layouts instead.

Strange... I'm not finding this "layouts". I found Mods/Galactic Armory/Script Data/Folders.xml instead. By chance the correct option would not be Mods/Galactic Armory/Models?  :-\

The folder may not have been created yet, like I mentioned. You'll need to create it or have the game create it by exporting a design.

I'll search in the Internet and find how to create a new folder. I will test if the download worked or not.

You can export a design from within the game to have it make the folder for you if you aren't sure how to create the folder.

You export a design from the blueprint editor, in the top right of that screen. Same place you'd need to click to import it from that folder.

Do you get an error message when trying to import the design? If so, it will tell you the reason (or at least one of the reasons) it failed; keep in mind you will need to have the corresponding technologies unlocked in order for this to work.

(I'm also not 100% sure if this design will work with the last release of the mod as it was created in an earlier version.)

Does the design even show up in the list of importable designs?

EDIT:
Just checked it, the design does indeed work in the latest release. However, you need some pretty high tech levels to unlock the required subsystems; the advanced AI core, for instance, requires Computers 11.

Just to make sure, the location where you need to copy the file to should be:

Code: [Select]
C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\My Games\Star Ruler\Mods\GalacticArmory\Profiles\Script Data\Layouts

Hi again! this time I have a little doubt: how I build a Orbital Refinery in Galactic Armory? I created and I'm using this design (http://starruler.blind-mind.com/designs/view/572) but I don't know if it is correct.

And yes... the idiot here finally learned how to import/export ship designs.   :-[

Looks good, but...

... how do you get the ore to the station? It doesn't have a mining laser, so you will have to use additional mining ships to harvest the ore and, if I remember correctly, manually tell them to supply the station with ore and then go back to mining. If I'm not mistaken you will need to make use of the 'repeat' command by pressing the 'R' key, giving the orders I just mentioned and then pressing the 'R' key again.

Then again, it's been a while since I really played the game so maybe there's an easier way to do this (well, strapping a mining laser to the station and have it mine from your planets directly is).

You know, I was thinking... it would make more sense if an orbital refinery have a "Import Dock (ore)" receiving ore from the surface of planets? it would make more sense than ordering to the refinery to shoot its mining laser in the planet below! ???

Also, why we cannot have a "export dock (He3)" to be used in He3 mobile refineries and/or miners? it would be better than simply oredering to supply nearby planets, stations and ships with fuel - and the He 3 mining operations would proceed without interruption.

Oh, and sorry for my bad English. I'm Brazilian and my knowledge of English never was good.

All I need is just unpack and the Battleship Gray color scheme into the GA subfolder? hmmm... let me try.

Strange... I follow the instructions, but nothing happened! I still using the Copper color scheme. I'm doing something wrong?  ???

P.S: I put the file in Star Ruler\mods\Galactic Armory\. Please note that I don't understand nothing about modding, so if I made a mistake, please give me detailed instructions about how to fix this problem.

P.S: I put the file in Star Ruler\mods\Galactic Armory\. Please note that I don't understand nothing about modding, so if I made a mistake, please give me detailed instructions about how to fix this problem.

You need to extract the content of the .zip file - consisting of three folders - into the mod's folder; however, the actual name of the folder may be different from the instructions. For the final release of the mod, we forgot to change the folder name so it may actually be "galactic-armory-1.9.4" instead of "Galactic Armory". So please check the actual name of the mod's folder to be sure. If I'm not mistaken it should then be

Code: [Select]
Star Ruler\Mods\galactic-armory-1.9.4\
which is where you need to extract the content of the .zip file to. If asked to overwrite some files confirm this with yes and you should be good to go.

I'll try to describe what I have done so far - maybe you can tell me what is wrong:

1) I downloaded the file.

2) I have moved the file to Star Ruler\Mods\galactic-armory-1.9.4\.

3) I unpacked the file there. And I have not seen any messages warning me about files being overwrited.

This was all I have done.

P.S: strange. there is two folders in my PC: one says "Mirage_Battleship_Gray" and the other says "Mirage_Battleship_Gray.zip". What in hell is happening here???  ???

Could it be that the software you are using to unpack the archive has created a new folder named after the file itself?

Just hitting "extract archive" is a BAD IDEA. It is better to open the archive using winzip, 7zip or winrar and then manually extract the content.

Okay, please read and follow these instructions carefully:
1. Please check if there is a folder with the same name as the archive - "Mirage_Battleship_Gray" (I assume that is the "file" you are talking about). If that is the case, open that folder.
2. You should see three folders within this one: Game Data, Images, Models. Select all of them and hit ctrl+x.
3. Exit the folder and go to Star Ruler\Mods\galactic-armory-1.9.4\. Click on an empty space or any file within that folder and hit ctrl+v.
4. When prompted to overwrite files, select "yes" or "overwrite all".

I know Star Ruler involves space ships and stuff, but this isn't rocket science, trust me ;)

"Manually extract the content"?! what that means?! I never used this 7zip in my life - was my brother who installed this program in my PC, but I never used it before. And there is no empty spaces in Star Ruler\Mods\galactic-armory-1.9.4\. There are a series of folders (subfolders?) there.

By "empty space" I meant the background in the explorer window. In any case, just stick to the instructions and click on any file in that folder instead (so that something within that folder is selected).

30 EUR?! wow!  :o Well, I'll test and see if the new shipset is finally working. Cross your fingers...

And once again, the damn shipset is not working - I done everything as you said. I tried a New Game and there was the old, annoying copper color scheme striking my eyes with its ugliness... what is wrong this time?!? >:(

Did you overwrite the files in Star Ruler\Mods\galactic-armory-1.9.4\ with the ones from the newly downloaded .zip file?

EDIT:
Okay, this time I messed up. Sorry.
The file you downloaded before this one was actually correct. The one you just got is copper color... For some reason, cause792 only included two folders in the grey one, so you need to download the other one first (which you already have, since it is included in Galactic Armory!).

So, one last time:
1. Select the two folders in Mirage_Battleship_Gray: Game Data and Images and hit ctrl+x
2. Go to Star Ruler\Mods\galactic-armory-1.9.4\. Click on something within that folder and hit ctrl+v.
3. Confirm the file overwrite when asked.

I have seen a message warning me about files being overwrited and I clicked "yes". And the file "Mirage_shipset(1)" is now emptied.

Actually the folder Mirage_Battleship_Gray is supposed to be empty. That's the one you should have taken the two folders from. Mirage_shipset(1) is probably a copy of the original one (copper color). So all you did was overwrite the copper shipset with the same one.

Please repeat those steps for the other folder, taking the files from the folder called Mirage_Battleship_Gray.

Nope, sorry :\

Until just now I didn't even know there was an EVE shipset out there. Has it ever been released or was it still work in progress?

As far as I know, the Amarr ship set was read to use. It is really a shame that I cannot download this shipset. :(  Well, at least I have the Mirage ship set.

Oh, and the link to the Amarr ship set was located in this thread: http://forums.blind-mind.com/index.php?topic=4572.msg35688#msg35688

Hey, XCOMmander! :)  I found a ship set compilation here in the forums with the Amarr ship set, but I don't know how to install just this ship set (Amarr) in my PC. Also, you know a ship set called HGN? If this HGN is so cool like the Mirage, the Neumon, the Terrakin, the Vaygr or the Hiigaran ship sets, I will install it in my PC - but if is so ugly like the bezimeni or the Polarstorm ship sets, I will run of it like if it was the devil in person!  :o

Oh, yes! I forgot to say I found this ship set compilation here: http://forums.blind-mind.com/index.php?topic=4925.msg37917#msg37917

HGN is short for Hiigaran, which is already in the mod. I remember a single Hiigara shipset being around before we added it to the mod along with the Vaygr one, so it may be slightly different (i.e. there are different models in it).

As for the Polarstorm shipset... Yeah, those textures weren't my finest work. :P

Actually I would advise against it. It's most likely not configured the same way as the shipsets provided with the mod (so it will select the models based on size alone, not on hull type used) and, more importantly, adding another shipset will increase the mod's memory usage even further. The mod can cause frequent crashes as it is, so I would rather advise removing shipsets instead of adding new ones.

If you really insist on trying it for yourself, though, the installation should be pretty simple. I assume the shipset comes packed in an archive (.zip, .rar or .7z). Somewhere in that archive should be three folders: Game Data, Images, Models.
This is important, read it carefully: If you want to add the shipset to the Galactic Armory Mod instead of the base game, extract those three folders to the mod's main folder, which should be Star Ruler\Mods\GalacticArmory or Star Ruler\Mods\galactic-armory-1.9.4.

Basically, it's the same procedure as with the Mirage Battleship Gray shipset; I'm sure you'll figure it out. :)

I was talking about add the Amarr ship set to GA. I love GA - although it is a bit more complicated than the vanilla game (I cannot figure how to make a decent ammo/electronics/adv.parts orbital factory). I look the file and apparently there are not folders (Game Data, Images, Models) for each ship set. All ship sets are together in the folders (remember, I don't understand almost nothing about PCs- if I'm wrong, please correct me). How I can add the Amarr ship set in my PC if there is no folders just for it?

P.S: I forget to ask something: how I can remove the Polarstorm ship set from GA? if possible, I intend to replace it for the Amarr ship set.

Yes, my ego has so little validation, that it was a source of pleasure for me to every few months, drop by that site and view my 'battlecruiser' there, having the highest rating of any posted combat ship. In case there happens to be a solitary soul out there who is only now getting into Star Ruler and looking for a ship design that doesn't get chewed up and spit out, I'll attach the schematic here. Put it into your /*username*/Documents/My Games/Star Ruler/Profiles/Script Data/Layouts/ folder (sorry, that's Windows Vista, yours may be different) and then import it into your game. This version is built with Tech level 5's.

I had a hard drive failure a while back, and wound up reinstalling the game. Many of the designs I had on file were lost. I will post here a zip of what I currently have in my /Layouts/ folder. Much of it is essentially perfectly standard, uninspired stuff I simply did not care to have to redesign each time I played. Most of it is junk I would never build and is simply there because I downloaded it to look at it. The only truly 'inspired' thing I ever designed was that warship previously posted. (Others came up with the same basic idea I am sure, I was just the first to post.) The Artillery Platform however is very effective as a planetary defence, again though, not particularly inspired.

thx :) do you know where to get more schems? i'm developing new ships everyday but i'm running out of ideas, i've already designned about 200 ships, most of them are usless rubble with big flaws but some are usable. still, i'm not sure whether will be those actually effective in PvP since i use ALOT of smaller weapons instead of fewer bigger.

My all time favorite ship, the first that I felt cool, was the Destroyer at tech level 4.
My layouts are exploiting. Even the names. I only play against the AI so I am not really good with combat ships.

D'oh! Somehow I forgot about that. I guess the 'rest' of the techs were at level 5. I tend to keep my general science anywhere between three and five levels higher than everything else, which makes it quite easy for me to push one tech a couple levels higher to unlock something I deem crucial.

I was reading Battletech wiki Today. So I modified my level 9 jump capable carrier. I removed all engines, technically it is a station now. To refit a tug is needed to move it to a construction yard.  Its sole function is to move other ships from one system to another, and I think it does it quite good. :)
