Dunno how to explain it properly...

Don't read too much into it. It's a temporary tooltip popup in a really small format as a teaser.

Ship design will get its own dev diary at some point in the future.

somewhat i knew it was "temporary"
however it would be cool if it was just for the fleet screens (it gives "color" and differenziation to have more styles for similar but different things)

Best not to leap to any conclusions based on screenshots, just have to wait and see what's what when BMS give us the dev diaries.

I wasn't saying that its wrong to ask, just that we shouldn't jump to conclusions based on things like that because BMS have proven time and time again we'll always think X at something in a screenshot but Y is really going on.

I just hope it won't be like the game StarDrive (creepy paria imo), you have a really limited number of space in your design. You just can't have for example 4 big canons because its too big for the ship, the size is determined and can't be changed. More realistic OK but less fun :( !

Well there was a limited amount of space in Star Ruler 1 too (namely 16*4 units of 0.25 size).

While we did change to a grid, subsystems in SR2 will not have a static size. You can still make a railgun of any size you want, just like you could make railguns of sizes 1.5, 2.0, 3.5, etc. in SR1.

Ok good :) That's what I wanted to hear.
I think its for the damage localization and a realistic design :P

Going with a grid is a good idea. While you let the size be defined by the player, it is a harder limit on component amount what is a very good choice in the long run.
