Switch to a new graphic engine or the same?
« on: September 13, 2013, 03:58:14 PM »
Hi there,
I was asking myself a question lately as SR2 was in dev : Are you going to use irrlicht as the graphic engine for SR2 too, or are you gonna switch to a new one? Just curious.

Thanks. :)

We made our own graphics engine for Star Ruler 2.

Interesting. I thought the SR1 engine is pretty damn good for a large-scale game like SR, propulsion aside. Would you mind elaborating on why you think a switch was necesarry ? Do you feel like the SR1 gfx turn off non-hardcore gamers ?

Irrlicht was too limited and too difficult to work with beyond what it was intended for. Our custom engine has very few limitations and allows us to directly expose rendering to the scripts in an efficient way.
